Joe’s parents came to the states from the Cape Verde Islands in the early 70’s. They bought a house in the small town of Scituate, MA where Joe and his 4 siblings were born & raised. Joe’s restaurant experience runs deep. Before working at the Smoke Shop BBQ, he worked as a Bar Manager at Jake n Joes, a FOH Manager at Cask n Flagon, a Kitchen Manager at TGI Fridays, a General Manager at Fridays & Estellas, a Butcher at Stop & Shop, a Line Cook at an Irish Pub, and as a Silent Catering Chef.
As our General Manager at our Kendall Square location, Joe aims to create a diverse culture within the staff, atmosphere, and guests. He welcomes in everyone with open arms and preaches hospitality from the front of house to the back of house. He aims to maintain a great experience for our guests by assuring food quality and that every guest leaves happy.

Favorite thing about BBQ: Joe appreciates the taste and smell of BBQ, and how it fills the restaurant from the moment you step in the door. He also enjoys the fact that it pairs well with beer.
Favorite thing about working for Smoke Shop: Joe loves the staff he works with at Kendall Square, the friendly guests he encounters, and serving up some of Boston’s best BBQ.
Where you can find her on a day off: You can find him at either one of his son’s college basketball games cheering them on!
